چکیده

This paper considers all the major transmission impairments while establishing a call in a wavelength-routed optical network. An event-driven simulation which incorporates online BER calculations accepts a call only if the BER at the destination node is less than 10. This approach ensures that no resources are wasted on those connections which cannot deliver an acceptable signal quality.

A Novel Protection Guaranteed, Quality of Transmission Aware Routing and Wavelength Assignment Algorithm for All-optical Networks

Transparent All Optical Networks carry huge traffic and any link failure can cause the loss of gigabits of data; hence protection and its guarantee becomes necessary at the time of failure. Many protection schemes were presented in the literature, but none of them speaks about protection guarantee. Also, in all optical networks, due to absence of  regeneration capabilities, the physical layer i...

Blocking Performance Analysis of Fixed-Paths Least-Congestion Routing in Multi ber WDM Networks

Wavelength-routed all-optical networks have been receiving signiicant attention for high-capacity transport applications. A good routing and wavelength assignment (RWA) algorithm is critically important to improve the performance of wavelength-routed WDM networks. We study the blocking performance of xed-paths least-congestion (FPLC) routing in multiiber WDM networks in this paper. A new analyt...

Impact of Transmission Impairments on the Teletraffic Performance of Wavelength-Routed Optical Networks

In a wavelength-routed optical network, a transmitted signal remains in the optical domain over the entire route (lightpath) assigned to it between its source and destination nodes. The optical signal may have to traverse a number of crossconnect switches (XCS’s), fiber segments, and optical amplifiers, e.g., erbium-doped fiber amplifiers (EDFA’s). Thus, while propagating through the network, t...

A New Model for Optimal Routing in All–Optical Networks with Scalable Number of Wavelength Converters1

A novel approach for modeling the optimal routing and wavelength assignment problem in wavelength division multiplexed all–optical networks is proposed. It is assumed that the optical switching nodes are equipped with a limited and scalable set of wavelength converters which can be used by any subset of incoming optical–connections. The proposed model, called the interconnected–layered–graph, p...

Analysis of Wavelength-Routed Optical Burst-Switched Network Performance

This paper studies a novel scalable network architecture combining optical burst switching (OBS) with dynamic wavelength allocation to guarantee quality of service (QoS). All processing and buffering functions are concentrated at the network edge and bursts are assigned to fast tuneable lasers and routed over a bufferless optical transport core using dynamic wavelength assignment. Different bur...
